MOVICON Fluid Couplings connect the motor to the gear unit input shaft. They allow for a smooth, shock-free start-up of the gear unit, even with large masses.
Fluid couplings operate according to the Föttinger principle. According to this principle, power is transmitted without wear or mechanical contact between the drive and driven components through hydrodynamic fluid circulation. Controlled acceleration enables gear units to start without overloading the motor or gear unit. The damping of shocks and vibrations provided by fluid couplings protects the drive train from load peaks, frequent starts, reverse operation and sudden blockages. Therefore, no frequency converter or soft starter is required, even under conditions of high inertia and extreme loads.
MOVICON Fluid Couplings are also available in an explosion-proof design, in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.
